About Our Curriculum:

Our K4 Program uses developmentally appropriate activities as a means for students to learn about the world.  We currently implement the Creative Curriculum https://teachingstrategies.com/creative-curriculum-preschool/ which allows students to explore various topics and gain skills in language, literacy, math, gross and fine motor, science and arts as supported by the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards http://www.collaboratingpartners.com/wmels-about.php.

Our PreK-3rd grade program is guided by the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards (WMELS), WI State Standards and the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).

Literacy

Literacy is at the forefront of all learning on a daily basis for our scholars. Scholars receive explicit instruction each day as they continue to build a foundation of early literacy. Reading blocks are 90 minutes which include the Big 5: Phonics, Phonemic Awareness, Vocabulary, Fluency, and Comprehension. The Superkids Reading Program Superkidsreading.com/k-2  is being used as the main curriculum. In addition, supplemental curriculum and instruction is used to support mastery of the common core state standards. Scholars are expected to spend 30 minutes per day reading independently.

Math

Mathematics is an important part of the daily routine. Each teacher plans for a 60 minute math block. Math instruction practices focus on understanding the “How? Or Why?” or mathematical procedures using discourse. Math units are aligned to the Common Core State Standards and provide for hand-on learning experiences. Science

Science is based upon investigation and inquiry. The JO’S curriculum integrates science with all other subject areas to strengthen science knowledge and academic vocabulary that reinforce mathematics and literacy. Science experiences give multiple opportunities for scholars to see the world through different lenses. Various tools and  materials are used during these lessons which provide for teamwork. The basis of all science lessons is aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards Nextgenscience.org/search-standards. Multiple resources are used to teach these standards.
